Take that, Hollywood: Shah Rukh Khan has more moolah than Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Eastwood, Nicholson

Only one Hollywood actor is richer than King Khan

WASHINGTON, DC: Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan is the world’s second-richest actor, beating out Hollywood royalty like Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson, and even Tom Cruise.

Khan (48) is the sole non-American on a list comprised entirely of men. The list was compiled by Wealth-X, a firm that specializes in compiling data and intelligence on the richest and wealthiest individuals in the world. According to their research, Khan is worth an extraordinary $600 million, which is beaten only by the $820 million belonging to comedian/actor Jerry Seinfeld.

Cruise placed #3, with $480 million, followed by Hollywood heartthrob Johnny Depp, who has a net worth of around $450 million. Both actors have had a hard time connecting at the box office of late, but still command very high salaries and often get producer credits on their films; Depp, in particular, normally receives at least $20 million per picture.

Tyler Perry ranked #5, with $450 million in the bank. The African American writer/director/actor is the highest-ranked black individual on the list, and is one of only three non-white men to make the list (Khan and Bill Cosby being the other).

Three-time Oscar-winner Jack Nicholson ranks #6, with $400 million, two-time Oscar-winner Tom Hanks is #7 with $390 million; former TV star and comedian Cosby is #8 with $380 million; Eastwood is #9 with $370 million; and actor Adam Sandler is #10 with $340 million.

All of the people are middle-aged or older men (the youngest person on the list, Perry, is 44).  Seventy percent of the list is comprised of Caucasian men, some of whom have not had a bona fide hit in years, while Seinfeld himself is rich largely from the royalties and DVD sales he accrues from syndication of the “Seinfeld” show, which ended 15 years ago.

The most noticeable aspect of the list, however, is the dearth of women. Stars like Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lawrence, and Sandra Bullock are nowhere to be found despite being some of the highest-grossing stars, male or female, in the world.

Although one could argue as to the creative quality of Khan’s most recent projects, there’s no denying that they’ve all been massive commercial successes. His most recent film, Chennai Express, earned him somewhere around $5 million. Khan acts as a producer on just about all of his films, and has done so for the better part of a decade, meaning he reaps most of the profits (and also incurs the most loss, if the film underperforms).

In becoming the second-richest actor in the world, he has beat out competitors Salman Khan, who regularly breaks box office records with each of his new releases, and Aamir Khan, whose Dhoom 3 is currently the highest-grossing Indian film ever by a wide margin.

On Twitter, King Khan addressed the Wealth-X ranking, saying “No man is rich enough to buy back his past. O.Wilde. [referring to author Oscar Wilde] That said, work hard, make a good living [and] don’t forget to pray, the world awaits [you].”

Words we can all certainly live by, rich or not.

10 Horror Movies Based on Real Life Stories

Horror movies often promote themselves as being based on true stories but many seem to stretch the meaning of the word. Setting the movie in a world where the ‘true to life’ events are so off the wall its no longer believable. Other movies based on real life crime stories are known to actually downplay the events. A recent film called Perfect Sisters, portrayed the story of the Bathtub Sisters who maliciously drowned their mother in a bathtub and nearly got away with it. The real story is much more gruesome than the film makes it out to be and promote sympathy for the sisters involved and casting them as the protagonists. The real story was much more dark than two teenagers finally snapping on their alcoholic mother and her abusive boyfriend but instead plotted her murder calculatingly with no signs of remorse. The sisters reportedly were giggling as the autopsy photos were shown in court.

Still real life horror stories have a way of sticking with a viewer more than other genres.  Real life sociopaths and serial killers make us think before walking alone at night and be the reason for sleeping with the light on. Despite many true to life movies based on real events to fabricate a good portion of the film some are more true than people would expect and the accuracies are enough to haunt anyone’s nightmares. The world can be a cruel dark place and as this list of horror movies will show terrifying things can happen outside of the world of fiction and your nightmares. Maybe checking under the bed doesn’t seem like such a bad idea.

10. The Conjuring, 2013

The Conjuring was released in 2013 and advertised as true story based from the case files of Ed and Lorraine Warren, two paranormal investigators. After the release of the film, people were questioning the accuracy of the chilling events which originally seem to be too terrifying to possibly be true. The paranormal team investigated the Rhode Island farmhouse in the 1970′s and what they found was so disturbing the events stayed locked away and weren’t discussed. Ed Warren has passed away and his his wife, now 86, didn’t comment on the film but a friend who knew the family well claimed everything in the film including the presence of the witch really transpired. A family member living in the farmhouse has written a book about her personal experiences claimed the film was well done and quite accurate with the exception of a few minor differences and added there were plenty of experiences that didn’t make the movie.

9. The Haunting in Connecticut, 2009

The 2009 film The Haunting in Connecticut did take many artistic liberties with the story of a family who moved into an old mortuary in the 1980′s. Carmen Reed, who lived in the house, claimed the story was altered to be more “Hollywood” but there were many disturbing accuracies. One scene in the movie when the shower curtain nearly suffocated her niece. The scene really happened, but it was Reed and not her niece trapped in the curtain. The seances in the film never happened in real life but the exorcism was real and actually downplayed in order for the film to get a PG-13 rating. The true events couldn’t be put in the movie because they were more intense.

8. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 1974

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was banned in several countries after its release because of the level of violence. It portrays the story of a group of friends who appear at a chainsaw wielding serial killers house and his family of cannibals. The killer is nicknamed Leatherface because he wears the skinned face of his victims as a mask. In reality, the film is based on the real life case of Wisconsin’s Edward Gein in the 1950′s.  Crazy Ed, the real life serial killer, liked to wear the skinned faces of his victims and decorated his farmhouse with human remains. There is no concrete proof Gein was a cannibal but some evidence points to the possibility. The police found a human heart in a pan on the killers stove when they arrested him. When the police asked if he was planning on eating it he asked them if they thought he was crazy. The killer is also the inspiration for Hollywood’s Silence of the Lambs and Psycho.

7. Nightmare on Elm Street, 1984

In 2012, the New York Times included this film on The Best 1000 Movies Ever Made list. It is a memorable film about a disfigured boogeyman like character that enters his victims dreams during the night to kill them with a glove of razors. The movie is not promoted as being based on real life, but there are some startling overlaps that relate to unexplained deaths in Southeast Asia. Men were dying in the middle of nightmares with no clear cause of death. One was the 21 year old son of a physician, who was told to sleep by his family and claimed people didn’t understand, that he had nightmares before and this was different. Later during the night the family heard thrashing and screams and he was dead by the time they arrived.

6. The Girl Next Door, 2007

The movie is based on a novel of the same name and a real life crime that took place in Indiana in 1965. The movie is of a teenage girl who was getting tortured by her aunt in unimaginable ways. In reality, Sylvia Likens was tortured by Gertrude Baniszewski and her children and other neighborhood children. The prosecutor at the trial called Likens death as possibly the most terrible crime that ever happened in Indiana. The movie did alter the truth in some ways. Liken was never raped by any of the boys but was forced to use a coke bottle on herself in front of them.

10 Of The Most Loyal Hollywood Bromances

You may have seen recent stories about bromances popping up in the media. For those not up on the lingo, a bromance is a long-term intimate friendship between men of a non-sexual nature. While not as common as ”Best Friends Forever” (B.F.F.) the term that defines sister-friend relationships between women, you get the point. In Hollywood, there are some really awesome friendships between men. Long-term bonding happens withstanding the test of time, where relationships sustain the good and the bad. When two people really get one another, a connection happens that is not easily broken. It is rather refreshing to see the idea of bromances and what they represent talked about in the media.
Bromances seem to share threads of commonality. In addition to two people being well suited as friends, bromances have an uncanny way of evolving out of situations involving hard working, good looking guys who exude charm. That’s the Hollywood version anyway. Here is a list of 10 Hollywood bromances.

RSS advice to Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi: Just be mentors nothing else

Invoking the Hindu concept of 'vanaprastha', the RSS has advised Lal Krishna Advani, 86, and Murli Manohar Joshi, 80, not to press for "responsibilities". The two veterans have been told to be satisfied with being hailed as patriarchs and mentors of the party. In short, the party seems to be getting ready to put them both out to pasture.

Advani craves to be speaker, which is the only constitutional position available to him now. Joshi, on the other hand, wants to be part of Modi's core team, which includes party president Rajnath Singh, his close confidante Arun Jaitley and former BJP president and Nagpur MP Nitin Gadkari.

Sushma Swaraj could also figure in that elite club. Another name that's being talked about is that of Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar. Speculation is rife that he may relocate to Delhi and could also be among the "top four", most likely as home minister. Party general secretary JP Nadda could be assigned an MoS post.

According to sources close to Advani, RSS leaders told him that politicians above 75 should not take major responsibilities. They hinted that both Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi should act as mentors of the party. But it has been left to the patriarchal duo whether to accept the advice or not.

The RSS's decision to discourage Advani and Joshi from demanding "responsibilities" in the Modi dispensation fits in well with Modi's recent statement that "for the first time the country will be ruled by those who were born after India gained Independence."

Modi repeated the same statement in Vadodara on May 16, in Varanasi on May 17 and finally in the Central Hall of Parliament on May 20.

Sources in the BJP, who are close to RSS, told dna that senior Sangh leaders have conveyed to Advani and Joshi that Modi should be allowed a free hand in government-formation. Most RSS leaders have already left the capital ahead of Modi's swearing in on May 26, saying that their "job has been done".

But Advani is single-minded in his pursuit to become speaker even as Joshi is bent on becoming a minister, with a "heavyweight portfolio", if nothing else Human Resources Development ministry, which he held in the Vajpayee government.

Barring Rajnath Singh and Jaitley, no one in the BJP is certain of a ministerial berth, since Modi is keeping all decisions close to his "56-inch chest".

Nikki Reed files for divorce

Nikki Reed has filed for divorce from Paul McDonald.

The 'Twilight Saga' actress, who announced her separation from the former 'American Idol' contestant in March and is rumored to be dating 'Dancing With the Stars' star Derek Hough, filed courts documents to legally dissolve their marriage in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday (05.16.14).

The 25-year-old star cites irreconcilable differences and asks that her estranged husband, 29, be denied spousal support, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE magazine.

The former couple, who tied the knot in October 2011 after a whirlwind romance and quietly ended their relationship eight months ago, previously insisted their split was amicable.

Announcing their separation two months ago, a spokesperson for the actress said they were "still working [together] on their debut album, 'I'm Not Falling,' and added: "[They] remain best friends and look forward to their continued journey together."

Nikki previously claimed that music was the secret to their happy marriage and that Paul was her number one priority.

Last year, she said: "I feel like especially being in this crazy, weirdo world that we're in, where we're making movies and people are on tour, it's just so easy to lose track of what's important.

"I feel like it's really important to just be with each other and make the other person a priority."
